GFU Volleyball Team Partners with Safe Families for Children

On Oct. 29, the George Fox University (GFU) volleyball team partnered with Safe Families for Children to collect gloves and hats for children in need. This organization is faith-based and focuses on community service for families in crisis.
Kassie Staton, outside hitter for the GFU team, said that the volleyball team was first introduced to Safe Families for Children through an informational event last year. This event had been set up by the senior setter at the time, Delany Search.
Staton is a part of the outreach team for volleyball, and said that members of the team began the volunteer registration process for Safe Families for Children pre-pandemic. Though the process slowed during quarantine, it is continuing now.
The partnership between the volleyball team and Safe Families for Children motivated the donation collection at the volleyball match. Volleyball coach Emily Davis helped with resources and promotion for the event.
At the volleyball match against Willamette University, the GFU team collected hat and glove donations for the organization, bringing awareness and showing support. Those hats and gloves will be given to children who need them. GFU students can support the volleyball team and learn more about Safe Families for Children, Staton said, by “coming to matches and cheering us on.”
