George Fox University’s (GFU) GET Mobile App is now allowing students to order items such as food, beverages, and personal items off of the new feature called the Bruin Marketplace.

According to Jason Rosvall, the manager of the Bridge Cafe, the Bruin Marketplace is an online convenience store that allows students, faculty and staff to order various items for pick-up between 2 and 5 p.m. in the Bridge Café.

“Think of it like your local plaid pantry or 7-11 but you don’t have to leave campus to use it,” he said.

Rosvall said that students can purchase items using Flex Points, credit or debit cards. Like with an ordered meal, students will go to the Bridge Cafe to pick up their Bruin Marketplace order.

When asked about whether she would use this feature of the GET Mobile App, Julia Bedell, a freshman at GFU, said, “I would probably use it once every week or every other week.”

The Bruin Marketplace features several different categories of food and convenience items ranging from beverages to take and go meals.

“We have multiple categories available now: beverages, snacks, pantry items, allergen friendly, heat & go items, personal items, and more,” said Rosvall. He also said the eventual goal is to offer a “small selection of grocery items” like vegetables, fruits, dairy, and meat that students can buy and use to cook in their own residences on and off campus.

The Bruin Marketplace may cause students to make fewer trips to the grocery store.

“If this feature offered a good selection of food, I would probably choose it over the grocery store if I could for conveniences’ sake or to save money on gas,” said Bedell.

The Bruin Marketplace is also a potential alternative for meals.

“We will also offer Take and Bake items for anyone to pre-order and pick up on their way home. Items like family size lasagna, salad & breadsticks or enchiladas with rice & beans,” said Rosvall.

Bedell said she doesn’t see herself ordering any cheap meal packs or junk food from the app, but may consider some food options available.

“I could see myself ordering baking supplies, random snacks, and breakfast stuff like oatmeal and frozen fruit,” said Bedell.

According to the GET Mobile App, The Bruin Marketplace became available on Monday, March 8.
