Before the starting tip off, GFU players Emily Spencer, Lillie Abramson, Hailey Hartney, Haylee Hutzler, and Kylin Collman peeled themselves away from the team huddle and took to the court. Students in Bruin gear sat in the front rows of the bleachers, clutching and waving large face cutouts of individual players. The crowd had never been bigger that season.

New Shelter Plans to Combat Youth Homelessness

In the 2017-18 school year, 20,545 students in Oregon’s K-12 public schools lived in homeless situations at some point, and the Newberg School District has identified 185 students in grades K-12 as homeless, or 3.5 percent of the total enrollment, according to the Newberg School District website.

Then, SAAC buys presents for each family member for the 12 days leading up to Christmas, including fuzzy socks and a disposable camera.

Basketball and Living-Area Competitions

Friday afternoon kicked off the home openers for basketball in Wheeler Sports Center at George Fox University (GFU). First was the men’s game, which started at 3 p.m. Playing against the Poets from Whittier University, the game was tight, and the two teams were always within ten points of the other. By the end of the first half, the Bruins were scraping by with a 49-46 lead.

The Inklings of George Fox

In the attic of Coffee Cottage, up a narrow staircase of creaky floorboards and dusty windowsills, there is a small attic room. Posters scatter the ceiling, covering the wood paneling underneath, and Christmas lights brighten the dim room. A large table is in the center with multiple computers and notebooks on top of it. George Fox University (GFU) students are furiously typing away at the keyboard or scribbling down notes, but they are not working on homework. They are working on something bigger.
