In the fast-paced environment of George Fox University (GFU), students often seek places to relax, study, or connect with friends. But where can they go?
From outdoor spaces to indoor lounges, GFU offers students several inviting areas to unwind and build community. Popular spots include The Bridge Café, The Quad, dorms, and Murdock Library.
At the heart of campus lies the Quad, a spacious outdoor area where students can sit on lawn chairs or benches to work, hang out, and enjoy nature. With ample shade from trees and open areas for sunbathing, the Quad is also the site of major campus events like Wipe Out, Fox County Fair, and other student activities.
“I like how there’s always seating everywhere,” said junior Jordyn Tagudan. “It’s a nice, lush green, and I like how it’s really open.”
For those seeking a quiet study space, Murdock Library provides a calm environment with plenty of tables, study nooks, and couches. Open 24 hours on the main floor, the library is equipped with printers, computers, study rooms, and vending machines, making it an ideal place for focused work, especially late at night.
“It’s quiet, and I enjoy looking out the window at the nature outside,” said freshman Samara D’Silva.
Next to the library, the Klages Center offers a dining area and houses the Makers Market, where students can grab snacks and meals on the go. The space is often used for casual gatherings and group work.
“It’s lovely enough that I don’t feel weird, but I’m still able to focus on work, and I like meeting friends there,” said freshman Hannah Kanges.
For a more social atmosphere, The Bridge Café inside Canyon Commons serves espressos, pastries, sandwiches, and smoothies. Open from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., the café features indoor and outdoor seating with large windows offering scenic views of Hess Creek. It’s a popular spot to grab a bite, study, or catch up with friends.
“I like how many people pass through there, and I like saying hi to a bunch of my friends,” said Tagudan.
Dorms also provide opportunities for students to relax and socialize, whether in their rooms, the lobby, or the basement. Dorm life is a key part of building community at GFU.
